Shining Stars Foundation provides a Rendezvous trout fishing experience to 62 kids with life threatening illnesses

07.27.2010

This week, 62 children who are dealing with cancer and other life threatening illnesses will have an experience that's generally reserved for residents of Rendezvous in Winter Park:   pulling large trout from Mary's Pond, Rendezvous' private, stocked lake.

The day of fishing at Rendezvous, with gear and guidance provided by Rendezvous' Director of Development Terry Stanford, is part of Grand County Summer Adventure by the Shining Stars Foundation, offering recreational, educational and social outreach programs to children 8 to 18 years who face serious illnesses.  During their day at Rendezvous the 'Stars' and their families will be treated to a visit to the Cozens Ranch Museum, a former Pony Express and stagecoach stop with an incomparable Old West collection from Grand County history, which had been an inspiration to Koelbel and Company in designing Rendezvous.

All participants will have a chance to have photographs in historic costumes provided by the museum and by volunteer photographer Steve Pisano.  According to Cookie Ready, Director of Outreach Programs for the Shining Stars Foundation, services are generally provided to families in need at no expense to the family.  As with all Shining Stars activities, Grand County Summer Adventure relies extensively on local volunteer support, provided this year by 100 volunteers from Middle Park High School, Grand County area service clubs, restaurants, businesses, and non-profits.  During the three-day Grand County program, children will also be treated to alpine slides, hiking, horseback riding, paddle boats, and whitewater rafting on the Colorado River.

"You couldn't have a better chance of catching large fish than you'll get from Mary's Pond," said Keith Neale, President of Colonnade Communities, Rendezvous' homebuilder, who coordinated Rendezvous' participation.  The pond, regularly stocked, is fed by the trout laden Fraser River that passes through Rendezvous -- one of a host of amenities, including bike trails, picnic areas and a free ski shuttle, enjoyed by Rendezvous residents as part of their ownership package.  Neale added that Rendezvous was proud to make the pond available to an organization with a reputation for such valuable services to the community.

Rendezvous also provides community support through The Rendezvous Foundation, created by developer Koelbel and Company to aid community-based charities in Grand County.  The Foundation is endowed through continuing sales of Rendezvous' resort-style cabins, townhomes, custom homes and home sites.

Programs by the Winter Park/Tabernash-based Shining Stars Foundation are aimed at helping children and young adults gain self-confidence, physical endurance, independence and self-determination -- components of a 'will to live' for youngsters who often see no hope for their future. Experiences are geared to fostering friendships and creating an ongoing support network, through shared experiences from leaning on each other in times of need.  Shining Stars Foundation accepts donations at PO Box 730, Tabernash, CO 80478, or via the web site at ShiningStarsFoundation.org.

Rendezvous offers moderately priced ProngHorn Townhomes, MooseHorn Cabins and luxurious BigHorn Cabins, as well as custom homes and home sites.  For more information visit the Real Estate Discovery Center, on Hwy 40 between Winter Park and Fraser, across the street from the rec center or call 970-726-8200.   www.RendezvousColorado.com
