Athletes and exercisers consume a lot of packaged water and energy drinks. Have you ever stopped to think about what we used before plastic bottles? That’s right. We used public fountains, refilled glass bottles, carried a thermos and saved our money!
Millions of Americans recycle their empties on a daily bases, but unfortunately, we toss double the amount into landfills and litter.
According to the Container Recycling Institute, an estimated 138 billion beverage bottles and cans were not recycled in last year.
Here are a few simple ideas on how we can recycle our bottled waste:
• Install filters on kitchen faucets or use filtered pitchers to improve tap water.
• Offices and health clubs can promote the use of water fountains and coolers.
• We can invest in insulated refillables! Use BPA-free containers, glass and stainless steel bottles.
IT is possible to ditch the plastics– reduce waste, conserve resources, save money AND stay hydrated!
