Staying Covid-safe on the slopes—What you can do

The act of skiing and boarding keeps people naturally distanced, yet, there are situations when you’ll want to take extra precautions.

While most resorts are requiring reservations to ensure lower volumes of skiers and boarders on the mountain, there may still be clogging in lift lines, lodges and food spots. Keep practicing the three W’s(!): Wear a mask, Wait 6 feet apart, and Wash your hands. Here are additional tips to keep you safe, healthy and having fun on the slopes this season.

The industry has adopted a “Ski Well. Be Well” list of guidelines that include:
• Make a plan. Most resorts will require an online reservation from lift tickets to lunch.
• Some resorts may require parking reservations.
• Ride the lift alone. Don’t feel forced to ride with strangers on lifts and gondolas.
• Large trams will limit guests for social distancing.
• Pop-up outdoor spaces for food and beverages, rental equipment, etc.
• Food trucks in parking lots.
• Outdoor warming huts, open tents, fire pits, and warming benches.
• Maintain distances in lift lines, food lines, and restrooms.

The medical industry has offered additional safety tips:
• Get a flu shot at least two weeks before your trip to build immunity.
• Prevent injuries. Get into slope-shape – physically and mentally – prior to the season/your trip.
• Always ski or board with a helmet securely strapped to your head.
• Increase hydration by moderately increasing water intake before and during your time on the mountain.
• Travel to and from the slopes in your personal vehicle with members of your immediate household.
• Be aware of “high-touch” areas around lodges, restrooms, and in your hotel room.
• Pack hand sanitizer in your pocket and use prior to eating outdoors.

While resorts are doing their best to keep you safe, ultimately, it’s up to you to follow the guidelines and act responsibly. Play it safe and have fun!
